Lives and works in Martinique
Challenging … testing the artist’s practice… I would like to be this sort of artist, capable of taking risks, of getting out of my studio, the studio as a “work of art”, seeking what I name “hors-lieux” or outside.
Repairing … Mending … Stitching… Reconciling … all that constitutes the task of building the basis of the work, a fundamental element. Changing places… travelling around… Disorientating… until one starts wandering; all this animates the act of metamorphosis. The work is the site of innumerable coverings, strata and tracks, what is left of simple gestures… “Stolen from Africa”.
My field of research is superimposing papers, and manipulations of glue that enables me to bring forth the work’s « body ». This work comes from the thickness. The structures no longer exist, as they are covered: everything is revealed and concealed at the same time.
I weave my « web ». The work that was elaborated horizontally is now erect; it cannot be classified in the former categories; it defies the first side/other side concept; it overpasses the limits.
I will then be commited… be lost sometimes… feel doubt; my production will give meaning to this experience, and will become the tracks left by me.
